Sweet – Sour (House on the Elbe River) is a multimedia installation and performance exploring the complex layers of human experience, from tenderness to trauma and the everyday to deep emotional resonance. It is inspired by my personal experience of living on a refugee ship anchored in Hamburg, which was a home but never a place of departure. This experience led me to reflect on the concepts of movement, belonging and uncertainty, and the emotional traces that these states leave behind. At the heart of the installation is a boat-shaped cake, symbolising softness, fragility and the potential for shared journeys. During the performance, the cake is shared with the audience, creating a space for intimate exchange and imagined movement. A video documents this imaginary journey, while postcards containing fragments of refugee documents offer opportunities for personal reflection and connection with stories that often remain unseen.
‘Sweet – Sour’ is a space of quiet transformation, an invitation to listen, share and collectively reflect on belonging, movement and remaining.
