DESTROPIA – BETWEEN CREATION AND DESTRUCTION
Change is both the origin and the consequence of all matter, visible and invisible.
It moves through natural cycles, reshaping what exists and giving form to what is yet to come. Vital forces act on spaces and structures, transforming systems through processes of deconstruction, digestion, and decay.
Destropia explores these transformations as creative gestures, where destruction becomes a condition for renewal. The exhibition brings together works that question disappearance and reconstruction, whether material, systemic, or ideological — revealing the tension between utopia and dystopia. Through this dialogue between creation and decomposition, the exhibition invites us to reconsider the potential of collapse: how disintegration, composting, and erosion might themselves become acts of production, and how new imaginaries can emerge from what falls apart. Wer gibt hier den Ton an?
Interactive sound installation;
Material: Wild clay, water, glass aquarium, hydrophones, sound installation, 23 min, loop
This interactive sound installation explores the production of sound through the clay. The title “Wer gibt hier den Ton an?” plays on the German word ‘Ton’, meaning both ‘clay’ and ‘sound’, and reflects the essence of the work. When clay meets water, it produces cracking, sliding and rustling sounds. Audience members can shape the installation’s sound and form, dissolving the boundaries between artist, material and observer. The resulting landscape remains in the aquarium and is accompanied by the sound installation ‘Resonances of Clay’, which conveys traces of transformation and creates a sonic microcosm of nature.
Is it possible for something truly new to arise from the ashes, or is destruction another illusion of freedom?
