Wild Clay Workshop – From Ground to Form

Recently, I had the opportunity to lead a project week at LYCÉENIC-BIEVER Dudelange, where I worked with students to explore the process of working with wild clay – from earth to form. Through our shared work, we observed how a natural material, found in its raw state, transforms under the hands of the participants – from raw earth into a supple mass ready for creation. The process involved collecting, cleaning, filtering, and drying the clay on plaster slabs, gradually turning soil into clay suitable for modelling.
This workshop was an exploration of the relationship between humans and material, between natural rhythm and handcraft.
Wild clay carries within it a story of earth, water, and time – and through working with it, we learn patience, presence, and respect for the material.
Each participant experienced a personal transformation – both of the material and of their own approach to making.
From earth to form, the workshop became a space where, through touch, water, and time, the connection between humans and nature is re-established.
