Kinetic sculpture / Installation
Tuesdays in the Gallery – Fast Forward, Art gallery Split, Croatia
In Unknown, I explore the human figure as a metaphor for the contemporary individual, alienated, isolated, yet universal in their existential vulnerability. The sculpture is constructed from a metal framework covered with laminated newsprint, establishing both a material and symbolic connection between the human body and the mediated world that shapes it. I deliberately form double limbs and a torso with a faceless head to emphasize the loss of identity and individuality. The figure is connected to an electrical source by over 25 meters of cable and continuously revolves around its own axis. For me, this motion represents the condition of modern humanity, constantly in motion yet making no real progress; active, yet paralyzed by its own limitations.
The electric cable encircling the body evokes the idea of technological entrapment: a human being immersed in a digitally mediated reality, losing authentic contact with self and others. Unknown is my attempt to articulate the tension between the longing for freedom and the awareness of its impossibility in contemporary society.
